Blazin'
Blazin' is the fourth and final track of WeekEnd 1 and the 26th track of Friday Night Funkin' overall. It was released on the 30th of April, 2024. It appears on Friday Night Funkin' OST Vol. 3.
The opponent for this track is Darnell.
Song Effects
Unlike the other songs up until this point, where two characters take turns rapping, Blazin' is unique in that it's a fist fight between two characters and there are no turns, meaning that there's only one set of notes shown, displayed in the middle. The animations played throughout Blazin' are largely scripted when played normally, meaning that there will be moments where Darnell dodges and/or lands a hit on Pico, but this will not have an effect on the player's health; however, missing notes will still cause health drain as to be expected.
A special Game Over animation plays if the player reaches 0 health during the fight.
Trivia
- Blazin' was the only WeekEnd 1 song to not be leaked ahead of the update's official release, as it had not yet been implemented when the leaked build was made.
- However, it was officially teased in multiple ways, unlike the leaked tracks.
- Blazin' was used as the teaser theme for the update.
- Blazin' is not initially included in the track listing for WeekEnd 1 in the Story Mode menu; the level must first be completed for the track to be revealed there.
- Blazin' is the first song:
- To consist only of the instrumental.
- Where none of the characters are singing.
- Where only one set of notes is shown.
- With a scroll speed greater than 3 in one of its difficulties.
- To be hidden from a level's track listing in Story Mode before the level's completion.
- Blazin' is one of two songs to not have hold notes in its charts, the other one being Lit Up.
- The idles for Pico and Darnell are based on the idle poses of certain Street Fighter characters.[1] Darnell's pose seems to most closely resemble the shotos (Ryu, Ken, Akuma), while Pico's seems to most closely resemble Guile.
- The ending of the song is different on the Volume 3 album than in-game.
- On the 15th of December, 2022, during an AMA on /funkg/, ninjamuffin99 would reveal the name of the song earlier before its official release and hint at its playable status, stating: "teaser song i think maybe was BLAZIN, and if we pull it off right, u all will believe in us again once u see what we do with it...."[2]
- According to a comment found in the game's source code, the middlescroll seen in this song is a one-time song gimmick for this track, and it will never be implemented as a feature.[3]
- According to EliteMasterEric, Blazin' had a humorous bug during testing where Darnell's arms wouldn't render properly due to an error with his spritesheet; this bug was dubbed the "Rayman bug" by the team.[4]
- Darnell's sprites in Blazin' currently have a lot of inconsistencies, mainly in regards to his headphones, with them appearing in some animations but not others; PhantomArcade has stated that he wants to fix this in an update, likely at a later date.[5]
- The concept of Blazin' was planned very early when WeekEnd 1 was being developed.[6]
- In early 2022, ninjamuffin99 drafted a concept of Blazin' where instead of the song using the traditional chart to control the fight, the song would have instead used a unique, dynamic rhythm-based system. However, this concept was scrapped as it would have added extra time to the development of the level.[7]
- ninjamuffin99 stated that he will probably make a small Newgrounds game utilizing this concept in the future.[8]
- Blazin' will get a Boyfriend remix in the future.[9] The remix will also be composed by a guest composer that people "fight over".[10]
