Naughtyness
Naughtyness is a special setting in the Options menu for Friday Night Funkin' that was first added in the Week 7 update. Disabling Naughtyness tones down or outright removes some more of the adult content in the game, such as extreme violence, profanity, nudity, etc..
Overview
When entering the Preferences sub-menu located in Options, the player has a choice to enable or disable Naughtyness (the setting is on by default).
If left enabled, content such as profanity, nudity and sexual content, and violence will be completely uncensored. If Naughtyness is disabled however, this content will be censored, either being toned down or completely altered to change the context of the scene.
Changes
The following is list of all known changes that occur when disabling Naughtyness.
Week 6
- Senpai's line "But this time I'll rip your nuts off right after your girlfriend finishes gargling mine." in Roses is changed to "But this time I'm gonna make you scream... Almost as loud as I'll make your girlfriend scream later tonight, you fat midget."
- In the Pico Mix, the line "Keep at it and I'll knock your teeth out right after I knock your ugly girlfriend up." is changed to "Keep it up and I'll show your girlfriend here a better time tonight than you ever could."
Week 7
- The blood that flies out from the wounded Tankmen are changed to blue sparks (currently unused but the animation is still found in the game files).
Results
- When getting a "Perfect" rank as Boyfriend, when leaping into the bed, Boyfriend's clothes (apart from his socks and shoes) stay on, no love heart particles are emitted from the bed, and rainbow text flashes on screen saying "TICKLE FIGHT!!", accompanied by an airhorn, a children cheering sound effect, and a cartoonish whizzing sound.
Trivia
- While Naughtyness was introduced in the Week 7 update, none of the content was altered when the setting was disabled, making the feature functionally useless. It wouldn't be until the WeekEnd 1 update when Naughtyness altered anything in-game, that being changing Senpai's line in Roses to be less vulgar.
- While Naughtyness altered nothing when the setting was introduced, left-over animations and assets in both Tankman's and Week 7's FLA file suggest that alterations were planned but weren't implemented in time:
- Overall, the Naughtyness setting is comparable to other censorship options in games like in Mortal Kombat or Call of Duty where content like blood, gore, and profanity can be reduced or outright disabled. Specifically however, the Naughtyness setting is inspired by PhantomArcade's childhood playing Alien Hominid, in which the game allows the option for gore to be turned off and be humorously replaced with flowers, which allowed him to play the game without getting in trouble with his parents; this experience caused PhantomArcade to want to a similar setting for Friday Night Funkin'.[1]
