This page is about the screen. For the song, see Results (Normal).

The Results screen is a special screen in Friday Night Funkin'. It appears after the player completes a level in Story Mode or completes a single song in Freeplay. It was added in the WeekEnd 1 update.

Overview

After completing a level in Story Mode or a singular song in Freeplay, the game tallies up the player's accuracy, all the notes the player hit, their max combo, all the ratings the player received, the number of notes missed, and then finally the score. If the player's new score is higher than their previously recorded one, the game will display "New highscore" right above the player's points.

In the background, there is scrolling text that displays the selected difficulty, the player's accuracy, the song name, and the composer(s). If the player completed a level via Story Mode, then the name of the level will be displayed instead of the individual song.

After calculating the player's accuracy, they will then be given a rank, each with their own corresponding animation. The rank the player achieved also appears in the background. There are currently six different ranks:

  • L - Loss: Received for achieving a low accuracy rating of 0%–59%.
  • G (Bronze) - Good: Received for achieving an average accuracy rating of 60%–79%.
  • G (Silver) - Great: Received for achieving a high accuracy rating of 80%–89%.
  • E - Excellent: Received for achieving a superb accuracy rating of 90%–99%.
  • P - Perfect (Purple): Received for achieving a perfect accuracy rating of 100%.
  • P - Perfect (Gold): Received for achieving a perfect accuracy rating of 100% and getting a Sick!! rating on every single note.

Character Animations

Trivia

  • Boyfriend was originally going to use the same animation upon receiving a "Good" and "Great" rank; however, this was changed, and Boyfriend was given a unique animation for a "Great" rank.[1]
    • PhantomArcade would post a teaser of the animation on his Instagram, albeit only being a work in progress sketch and focused in on Girlfriend. This sketch was posted on the 29th of May, 2024, a little under a week before the release of 0.4.0, meaning that this decision was likely a last minute change.[2]
  • There are several references to anime and other media in certain results animations:
    • See caption
A side-by-side comparison of the victory poses Alien Hominid and Boyfriend do in their victory animations.
The pose Boyfriend does in his "Good" results animation is a reference to Alien Hominid, in which the titular character does a similar pose in his own results screen.
    • Boyfriend's animation in his "Great" rank animation is a reference to a Dr. Slump panel, specifically a panel from Chapter 136 titled "Hello, Moon", in which Arale Norimaki, the protagonist of the manga, jumps for joy after deflecting an asteroid (which in actuality is the Moon) heading for Earth.[3]
    • The leap Boyfriend performs out of his clothes in his "Perfect" rank animation is a reference to the original opening of Lupin the 3rd Part II, in which the titular character, Lupin III, does a similar dive.[4]
      • In addition, the hearts that Boyfriend and Girlfriend emit in that same animation are a reference to the hearts that appear when Big Boss and another character get inside the "Love Box" in Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker.[4]
    • The smoke from Pico's cigarette in his "Loss" animation is referenced from Samurai Champloo.[5]
    • The eye on Pico's rocket launcher in his "Great" and "Excellent" animation is a reference to the tanks in SAND LAND, which sport a similar looking eye.[6]
  • Pico's "Loss" results animation is mildly based on Pico Epilogue by JohnnyUtah.[7] In the original cartoon, Pico stands on the edge of a building and contemplates suicide decades after the events of Pico's School.
  • Two animations showing Pico shooting and blowing up targets are a nod to his ability to use a variety of weapons seen in his performances over the last 20 years.
  • Currently, Pico's "Great" and "Excellent" animations are the exact same. While Pico does have a unique "Excellent" results animation, the team had troubles implementing it into the game before the release of 0.5.0 due to bugs, leading it to being pulled for time. This animation will likely be patched in at a later update.[8]
  • Nene being in Pico's "Perfect" results animation was a last minute decision; according to PhantomArcade, Pico was originally intended to just drop down from the sky for the intro, but he thought there should be more to it, and came up with the idea of Pico dropkicking Nene off the cardboard.[9]
  • The dance Pico does during his "Perfect" results animation is largely reminiscent of the dance he does during the "Musician of the Year Award" section of the 4th Annual Newgrounds Awards.
