Lyrics
(Lyrics directly sourced from Bassetfilms' Monster album on Bandcamp.)
Guess it's time,
you better plug in all your nightlights.
What's out there, past your darkened door?
Just the eyes floating up out of the shore.Hey man, I'm gonna eat your girlfriend,
Or maybe turn her into broth,
la-la-la la la
Kill a kid, cut em up.
stuff em up inside of my, secret meat box.
Find my, hands across your body slowly
peel your skin off.
You'll meet your friends,
inside the ambulance.
Call into the night,
to the werewolf.
Give all your blood to him,
stand under the warm street light.
Let yourself be hypnotized. You're just a little snack,
and so is your girlfriend.Hey man, I'm gonna tear your eyes out,
and then I'll boil your girlfriend,
la-la-la la la
Kill a kid, cut em up.
stuff em up inside of my, burning dungeon.
I would give you guys a little break but
I'm not Satan.
Trivia
- Monster is one of the few tracks that have English lyrics, the others being Tutorial, Fresh, Spookeez, Winter Horrorland, Ugh and Stress.
- Monster is currently the longest track in the game.
- Coincidentally, the third longest song currently in the game is Winter Horrorland, the Week 5 track also performed by Monster.
- Monster is the first song to be named after the opponent, the second being Pico, the third being Senpai and the fourth being Darnell.
- Monster's vocals are not attached to the vocal track of the song, meaning Monster's singing can still be heard if "has voice track" is turned off in the chart editor. However, Boyfriend's vocals are included in the vocal track.
- The same is true with Winter Horrorland.
- Monster was always planned to be the third track of Week 2[1] but was originally scrapped due to difficulty charting the song.[2] In a November 2022 Tweet, ninjamuffin99 stated that it was difficult to chart because the code and chart editor for the game did not accommodate the song's multiple BPM changes, and the song was cut to get the Week 2 update out roughly in time for Halloween.[3] Prior to the song's official release, when asked if there were plans to release Monster in the future, ninjamuffin99 confirmed that there were, stating, "yeah, jus been one thing after another! We have the chart, but now I need to hardcode a few certain things for it, as well as fix the jumps (when 2 notes are pressed at the same time)."[4] It was later officially added with the release of the Week 7 update.
- Previously, the song had been accessible exclusively through the chart editor. It did not have any difficulty levels or a way to save the final score.
- The improved charting for the song's addition in the update was done by MtH, the current head manager of the SiIvaGunner channel, and ChaoticGamer.
- Monster is currently the only song in the game to make use of the BPM change functionality.
- As stated in a Tweet by Bassetfilms, the beginning of the song is based on the song "Your Mother Should Know" by the Beatles.[5][6]
- Bassetfilms has also stated that he was thinking of "Blood and Bones" by the Blake Robinson Synthetic Orchestra, "Crocodile Rock" by Elton John, and new wave band Oingo Boingo when writing Monster.[7][8][9]
- With a varying tempo of 95 BPM, Monster is currently the slowest track in the game, with Tutorial, Bopeebo and Cocoa all tied for the second slowest with a tempo of 100 BPM.
- Monster is the only track in the game that uses uncommon time signatures, with some sections of the song having 7/4- and 5/4-time signatures.
- The lyrics "stand under the warm street light" appear to have inspired the artwork for the album Monster, which depicts Monster standing under a street light.
- These lyrics are seemingly also referenced in Friday Night Funkin scary, an animated short made and posted on YouTube by PhantomArcade. In the cartoon, Monster stands under a street light and twitches while he and Boyfriend stare at each other; Boyfriend then plays the Sir Mix-a-Lot song "Baby Got Back" from a boombox, causing Monster to dance.[10]
