This is the third song to be named after the opponent, the first being Monster, the second being Pico and the fourth being Darnell.
As shown in a Tweet by PhantomArcade, one of the references used for this song as well as the aesthetic of Week 6 is from the 1994 Japanese dating sim Tokimeki Memorial.[1]
At the end of the song, Boyfriend and Senpai can both be heard singing the final note, but Senpai's note for it was originally not present. This was fixed in the Week 7 update by giving Senpai a down hold note at the end of the song.
There used to be a minor visual bug where one up hold note during the song wouldn't register properly when pressed. This was fixed in the Week 7 update.
Senpai is one of the few songs to have one of its charts modified in a way that changes its note count in the WeekEnd 1 update, in this case its Easy difficulty chart. The other songs to receive this treatment are Spookeez, M.I.L.F and Guns.
Senpai ERECT is currently PhantomArcade's favorite released ERECT remix, as of the 8th of June, 2024.[2][3]
Senpai ERECT was almost released on the 22nd of April, 2022, instead of Bopeebo ERECT. Senpai ERECT was ultimately not chosen because, according to PhantomArcade, it is too good.
