Stress is the third and final track of Week 7 and the 22nd track of Friday Night Funkin' overall. It was composed by Kawai Sprite and was officially released on the Newgrounds version of Friday Night Funkin' on the 18th of April, 2021. It appears on Friday Night Funkin' OST, Vol. 2 and Friday Night Funkin' - The Official Soundtrack Vol. 1.

The opponent for this track is Tankman.

Cutscene Dialogue

[Klaskii Romper plays in the background.]

Tankman: God effing dammit! Well played, you little shit! But this is WAR! And in war... people DIE! Men, get ready to fire! Sorry, no prom for you this year, ha ha ha!

[The two Tankmen in the foreground take direct aim at Girlfriend, preparing to shoot. The camera zooms in on Girlfriend. She blinks, and suddenly her left eye shines red and her skin turns slightly purple, similar to her parents. Before she can do anything, Pico, equipped with two guns resembling MAC-10s, suddenly leaps to the rescue from the sky, smashing in the face of the soldier to his left with one gun. Girlfriend is knocked off her speakers but is caught by the waist by Boyfriend and is given a brief hug. Landing on the speakers, Pico aims his second gun at the other soldier's face, causing him to scream right before being shot. He faces forward and twirls around one of his guns.]

Tankman: Ah, look who it is! Your sexually ambiguous, angry little friend! Don't you have a school to shoot up? There's one way to settle this. Let's rock, ya little cunt!

[Boyfriend and Girlfriend look upset, visualized by performing their up note miss animation.]

Tankman: [laughs] Ya little cunts!

Song Effects

At 1:03 to 1:05, Tankman has a song-exclusive animation where he briefly compliments Boyfriend, saying, "Heh. Pretty good!"

Throughout the song, Pico can be seen shooting from the speakers. Pico's shooting is synced to the track's percussion, stopping to twirl the gun in his left hand during drum beat pauses.

Trivia

  • Stress is currently the only song where another character is on the speakers; in this case, Pico.
  • The Game Over screen for Stress reveals Girlfriend's skeleton, showing that she is a demon. It is entirely red with a hidden set of black horns. Her teeth are shown to be spiky as well. Her eye sockets are animated as if they were actual eyes, including her eyelashes.
  • Tankman seems to be familiar with who Pico is, as evident by how he questions if Pico has a school to shoot up. This is a nod to the fact that both characters are very well-known on Newgrounds, as they are both mascots of the site.
    • Tankman's line, "Don't you have a school to shoot up?" is an obvious reference to Pico's School, a famous Newgrounds game that Pico originates from. The line itself makes fun of the fact that Pico is not actually a school shooter. In his home game, he only ever used the gun he found to kill or threaten the actual perpetrators responsible for shooting up the school he attended.
      • Tankman is completely aware of Pico's efforts to save his school from the goth kids' attack. However, he purposely slanders him in an attempt to make him feel bad.[1]
  • Stress is one of the few tracks that have English lyrics, the others being Tutorial, Fresh, Spookeez, Monster, Winter Horrorland, and Ugh.
  • The bass drop from M.I.L.F can be heard at around 0:15 and 0:20 in the song.
  • Stress currently has the highest high score in the game of 157,150 on Hard difficulty, barely beating out Guns at 156,800, also on Hard.
  • Stress is currently one of the fastest songs in terms of note speed, tied with M.I.L.F at 2.6, both on Hard difficulty.
  • The triggers that cause Pico to shoot his guns are actually various left and right notes stored in a separate file in the track's Data folder named "picospeaker.json".
  • The scream used for one of the Tankmen about to get shot in the head by Pico in the cutscene for the song originates from Oney's Final Fantasy VII Let's Play series for OneyPlays, as confirmed by PhantomArcade during a live stream.[2][3]
    • As stated in the live stream, he has used the same scream before in previous works, such as the opening scene for the Newgrounds Among Us cartoon compilation.[4]
