Week 4, titled Mommy Must Murder, is the fourth level in Friday Night Funkin'. It was released on the 27th of December, 2020.

Overview

Opponent

Boyfriend faces off against Mommy Mearest, the pop-star mother of Girlfriend.

Location

Week 4 takes place on "The Limousine." This location is set around sunset on top of moving vehicles on the highway going left, where cars regularly drive by in the opposite direction. Visible on top of the limousine in the background are several Henchmen with light pink skin, a flattop haircut with a pair of horns and a deviously large grin wearing mostly medium-dark cyan-blue clothing that includes open jackets with no shirt underneath, somewhat baggy pants, sneakers with white laces and a pair of much darker blue sunglasses. They are constantly grooving to the beat. Another one of these Henchmen can be seen driving the limousine in front with an arm resting out on the window. The limousine in front has a hood ornament in the shape of Daddy Dearest's face.

Unique Effects

As the whole location takes place on moving limos, Boyfriend, Girlfriend and Mommy Mearest all have their hair constantly blown around by the wind. This applies to all tracks.

During the last track, the dancing Henchmen alter their regular choreography to fit the tempo of the song better.

Trivia

  • Week 4's title is a reference to an unreleased game ninjamuffin99 worked on with PhantomArcade called Must Murder Mommy.[1][2]
  • Originally, the Henchmen on the background limousine were supposed to be killed off by getting hit by a light post, but this was scrapped to save on development time. PhantomArcade stated that this feature would be implemented in the future.[3]
  • Before the Week 5 update, Boyfriend, Girlfriend and Mommy Mearest lacked the hair physics effect. However, once this was added, Girlfriend no longer briefly cries when Boyfriend misses a note for the whole week as she lacks the sprites for it with the new effect.
    • Before the same update, Mommy Mearest also lacked a danger icon.
  • The songs in Week 4 are reminiscent of music from the 1980s. Satin Panties and High feature double-tonic complexes, a double tonic involving two keys that creates tonal ambiguity, which is commonly used in pop and rock songs from the 1980s. M.I.L.F. has a melody that was inspired by Rick Astley's 1987 song "Never Gonna Give You Up".[4] This fits Mommy Mearest's 1980s-inspired design.
