Easy difficulty was recharted, altering its note count from 136 to 139.
Trivia
The beatboxing in Fresh was originally intended to simply be part of the instrumental for the song, but ninjamuffin99 decided to chart it.[1]
Fresh is one of the original two tracks that appeared back in the Ludum Dare prototype of Friday Night Funkin', the other being Bopeebo.
In the Ludum Dare prototype, Fresh had Boyfriend perform his V-sign pose during the song, but this was removed once the Newgrounds version of the game was released. Currently, only Tutorial and Bopeebo have him perform that pose.
Fresh is the first song in Friday Night Funkin' to have an official remix made by its composer, Kawai Sprite, titled "Fresh (Boyfriend Remix)." The remix appears on Friday Night Funkin' OST, Vol. 1 on Kawai Sprite's Bandcamp. This version of the song notably includes audible English lyrics.
Another remix of the song, titled "Fresh (Chill Mix)," was also set to appear in the first OST, but was ultimately cut out. It would later be included in the second OST.
Fresh has the highest number of official remixes at 4 (Boyfriend, Chill, ERECT, and Pico).
Fresh is the first track where both Boyfriend and his opponent harmonize. Before the Week 7 update, however, DadBattle was the first track to do so.
A variant of Fresh's instrumental appears on the Ludum Dare prototype's soundtrack, FUNKIN DOT MP3.[2] This version of the instrumental sounds slightly different and lacks the beatboxing at the end.
This version also appears in the game files of the prototype, located in the music folder.
Audio files of a single beatboxing sound from Fresh's introduction can be found in the game's files on GitHub.[3] These were used for an earlier version of the countdown, where it would play a chop of the song's intro in place of the counting voices.
Girlfriend bops her head at different speeds throughout Fresh. ninjamuffin99 has described this as "a quick lil change to her personal timer or whatever that basically makes her like, double time or whatev," with this being hardcoded into the song.[4]
When the vocal tracks were separated in the WeekEnd 1 update, a single bit of Daddy Dearest's vocals was erroneously put as part of Boyfriend's vocal track.
In the playable Pico update, Fresh was replaced by its version from Friday Night Funkin' - The Official Soundtrack Vol. 1, characterized by the crispier audio mixing and Daddy Dearest no longer having a second layer of deeper voice. Additionally, this version properly separated the vocal tracks for Boyfriend and Daddy Dearest.
This makes Fresh the third song to be slightly altered after its initial release. The first was Tutorial, the second was Bopeebo, the fourth was Cocoa, the fifth was Eggnog, the sixth was Senpai and the seventh was Roses.
During the second half of Fresh (Pico Mix), vocoded vocals of Daddy Dearest and Pico can be heard in the instrumental.
The beatboxing at the end of Fresh (Pico Mix) is only heard in-game, as it is missing in the Volume 4 OST release of the song.
