Throughout the track, Daddy Dearest and Mommy Mearest alternate between themselves while singing the song. The same effect occurs during the next track, Eggnog.
In the ERECT remix, Boyfriend says "fuck" at 1:20; this is censored, regardless of whether naughtyness is turned on or off.
Easy difficulty was recharted, altering its note count from 117 to 129.
Trivia
Both Cocoa and Eggnog were created for Week 5 and were released on Friday Night Funkin' OST, Vol. 1 on the 25th of December, 2020, to serve as a teaser for the game's Christmas update. Due to time constraints, however, the week was delayed, and the tracks would not officially appear in-game until the Week 5 update on the 20th of January, 2021.
With the release of the WeekEnd 1 update, Cocoa went through minor changes. The mixing is slightly altered and the voices have a slight reverb.
This makes Cocoa the fourth song to be slightly altered after its initial release. The first was Tutorial, the second was Bopeebo, the third was Fresh, the fifth was Eggnog, the sixth was Senpai and the seventh was Roses.
Although Eggnog ERECT is currently the only ERECT remix to be slower than its original tempo, Cocoa ERECT's original melodies are in fact slower than the regular version.
An old version of Cocoa ERECT, composed solely by crisp, was leaked ahead of its release through an old GitHub commit.[1] This version was vastly different from the final version, as it was a lot more fast-paced. Few parts of crisp's original remix are referenced in the final version.
Boyfriend's censored "fuck" in Cocoa ERECT was created artificially. Checking the song's project file reveals that the sound was made by combining one of Boyfriend's sounds from Fresh with two separate audio files for the "f" and "ck" sounds. Additionally, the censor bleep was made using the FL Studio plugin Osc.[2]
