South is the second track of Week 2 and the sixth track of Friday Night Funkin' overall. It was released on the 1st of November, 2020. It appears on Friday Night Funkin' OST, Vol. 1 and Friday Night Funkin' - The Official Soundtrack Vol. 1.

The opponents for this track are Skid and Pump.

Song Effects

Towards the end of South (Pico Mix), Pico accidentally burps and says "shit"; this line is currently uncensored regardless of naughtyness being enabled or disabled. Pico later burps again, this time smiling afterwards.

Trivia

  • According to PhantomArcade in a Twitter reply, South is performed by Skid while Spookeez is performed by Pump.[1]
  • South was previously the final track of Week 2. This was no longer the case after the Week 7 update, which officially added the formerly unused song Monster as the week's last track.
  • According to Kawai Sprite in a YouTube reply, the song is inspired by Three 6 Mafia, and its original title was "Spooky Down South," which was shortened to simply South.[2]
  • South and DadBattle were the first songs to have their ERECT mode remixes uploaded, with both being uploaded on the 29th of December, 2021.
    • Later, these songs would be altered before the WeekEnd 1 update released.
  • South contains a vocal sample from "Who U Wit?" by Lil Jon & the East Side Boyz.[3]
    • South also contains another vocal sample from "Down to Clown" by Scandalous Playaz.[4]
  • South contains a sample from "The Murder", the theme from the 1960 horror movie Psycho, specifically the screeching violin strings present in the 2nd movement.
  • Pico saying "shit" is currently uncensored, even if naughtyness is disabled. Despite this, his sprite sheet for Week 2 (labeled pico_dark in the game files) has a separate animation for a mouth censor.
